Competition in Italy fines Apple almost 100 million for abuse of dominant position

Apple closes physical store in China for the first time

The Italian authority also adds that Apple imposed conditions that were too restrictive in terms of competition

The Italian competition authority (AGCM) announced that it had imposed a fine of more than 98.6 million euros on the American company Apple for “abuse of a dominant position”.

According to the Italian authority, Apple violated the law on competition in the application creators market.

“In this market, Apple is in a position of absolute dominance through its App Store”, says the AGCM in a statement.

The Italian authority also adds that Apple imposed conditions that were too restrictive, in terms of competition, with regard to respect for the privacy of application users.

These Apple conditions “are imposed unilaterally, harm the interests of Apple’s commercial partners and are not proportional to the objective of respect for privacy”, considers the Italian authority.
