The government of São Paulo inaugurates, this Monday (22), the first section of the Rodoanel Norte, which connects the Presidente Dutra and Fernão Dias highways, marking the end of a 13-year wait since the beginning of works.
24 km long, the stretch aims to redistribute the flow of vehicles currently concentrated on Marginal Tietê. The expectation is that around 40 thousand vehicles will use the new route daily.
Completed during the administration of Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), the project was designed in 1998 by Mario Covas, but work only began in 2013, under the command of the then governor Geraldo Alckmin, at the time affiliated with the PSDB.

Without significant progress for more than a decade, the stretch became the target of criticism and demands under the administrations of Alckmin, José Serra, João Doria and Rodrigo Garcia.
Tarcísio took over the project with 80% of the works already completed, which made delivery possible within his management. The inauguration is part of a package of suspended works resumed by the governor, which also includes subway lines 6-Orange and 17-Gold.
One year before the race for re-election, Tarcísio announced the delivery schedule last Thursday (18), classifying the effort as “the construction of the impossible”.
The remaining 20 km of the Rodoanel Norte are expected to be completed by September 2026, one month before the elections.
