This achievement by Helenas consolidates a trajectory of popularization of a name that was already a national preference in the 1950s. Ten years ago, Helena occupied 45th position. In 2017, it moved to 21st. Two years later, it was 15th.

Among the girls, Helena became the leader in preference in 2020, a position maintained in all subsequent years, with the exception of 2022, when she was surpassed by Maria Alice.
The data is part of a survey based on , prepared by the National Association of Natural Persons Registrars (Arpen-Brasil), which represents the country’s civil registry offices.

Reason for choice
The president of Arpen-Brasil, Devanir Garcia, considers that name choices reflect not only individual preferences, “but also cultural, social and media trends that directly influence Brazilian families”.
By highlighting the presence in the ranking of short, easy-to-pronounce names, such as Gael, Ravi, Theo, Noah and Maitê, Arpen highlights the growing search for simplicity, sound and global connection.
“The trend combines tradition, especially through biblical names, with originality marked by the influence of personalities from the digital universe”, says the entity.
