Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov was killed in a bomb explosion in Moscow. Investigators are investigating the possible involvement of Ukrainian security services.
Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov died in the explosion of a car bomb in the south of Moscow on Monday. One of the investigative versions of the assassination is that the bomb was planted in his car by the Ukrainian security services, TASR writes, according to reports from the AP, Reuters and AFP agencies.
Sarvarov (56) was the head of the Operational Training Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Army and on Monday morning around 07:00 local time (05:00 CET) he was heading to work in his Kia Sorento car. It exploded a few seconds after starting. A criminal prosecution was initiated in connection with the incident.
Investigative versions
According to the spokesperson of the Investigative Committee (Sledkom), Svetlana Petrenko, Sarvarov died as a result of the explosion, and investigators are working with several versions of the incident, including the responsibility of the Ukrainian security services.
