How a Jewish salonnière brought the first Christmas tree to Vienna


We especially like them at Christmas: stories about traditional holiday traditions. It’s just that very few “traditions” have always been there. Most of the time they are a patchwork of influences that could hardly be more different. So when we put up a Christmas tree at home again this year, decorate it with glitter and sweets and answer the question “candle or string of lights?” debate, this is the perfect opportunity to tell the incredible story of Vienna’s first Christmas tree.
