Jožka Zaukolcová, a judge from the show Pečie čele Slovakia, is a professional confectioner, but she drew red lines for herself for the holidays. “Since there are only two of us with my husband, I don’t overdo it with baking. I make chocolate pralines before Christmas, but more or less because I want to give them away. I don’t want to miss Christmas and be sad about it. I want to enjoy them.” admits the sweet master. Who are they for?
“I give edible gifts to my loved ones. In addition to pralines, I also make decorated gingerbread. I really like to decorate them. It’s an anti-stress relaxation. My husband watches football and I sit down and decorate,” admits Jožka, adding that she likes more durable baked goods. “Vanilla rolls, Linz cookies, barbecues, coconut hedgehogs. They must not be missing from the Christmas table,” added.
Zaukolkova also captured the Christmas of her childhood in her memory. “We were a big family and the tradition was that we all met at the table. Christmas dinner started with a prayer, then with wafers. I remember from my childhood, when our parents told us that Jesus was coming, so they always sent us to the kitchen to shell peanuts, while they served presents under the tree. When I was six years old, my twin sister and I got a nice red sweater with decorations. And we got a sled,” says Jožka, who was not allowed to be a mother.
