It refuted US intelligence estimates that the Russian president is seeking to occupy all of it and reclaim parts of it that formerly belonged to the Soviet Union, arguing that these do not correspond to reality.
According to a Reuters report, which cited six unnamed sources, US intelligence agencies still believe that Putin has not abandoned those goals and show him wanting to occupy and annex areas that are now NATO member states.
The estimates are wrong
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters that Moscow could not assess the credibility of the agency’s sources, but stressed that if the information matched what US intelligence believed, then their conclusions were wrong.
“This is not the case in any case,” Peskov emphasized, referring to the estimates attributed to the American intelligence services.
