A Russian general died this Monday following a car bomb explosion in Moscow, as confirmed by the Russian Investigative Committee cited by Reuters.

The victim is Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov, responsible for directing the Army’s operational training at the Russian General Staff.

According to the Investigative Committee, a criminal investigation is underway to determine the circumstances of the attack. Among the hypotheses considered by Russian authorities is the involvement of Ukrainian special services in placing the explosive device.

Authorities have not yet released further details about the type of explosive used or any suspects identified as part of the investigation.
