Three people died after a fire destroyed an apartment in Condomínio Villa Serena, in the Água Branca neighborhood, in Piracicaba (SP), on Sunday morning (21). The victims were identified as Lineu Peixoto dos Santos Júnior47 years old, dentist; Thais Fernanda de Oliveira Matías41 years old, Lineu’s partner; and Maria Eduarda de Oliveira Corder18 years old, daughter of Thais and stepdaughter of the dentist. A dog and a cat also didn’t resist.

Lineu worked at a 24-hour dental clinic in the city, where Thais used to help him. Maria Eduarda owned a women’s clothing store in Vila Sônia. Confirmation of the deaths was made by the Fire Department and the funeral home responsible for the wake.

The fire mobilized 15 firefightersin addition to teams from the Military Police and Civil Defense. The flames started around 10:36 am and mainly affected living room and kitchenwhere the initial focus of the fire would be. The smoke reached other rooms and even damaged neighboring apartments. The causes are still to be investigated.

Despite the control of the fire in the early afternoon, the structure of the building is now undergoing assessment by Civil Defense, which must determine whether there is a risk to residents. The condominium remains partially closed.
