During the inauguration of a part of the northern section of the Rodoanel, this Monday (22), in Arujá, metropolitan region of São Paulo, the governor (Republicans) praised the ally (PL), made reference to and criticized “governments that have become accustomed to” when referring to the delay in completing the work.
The works had started in 2014, but were halted in 2018 due to technical difficulties and lack of cash from the companies responsible, which had been the target of investigations into the operation.
Tarcísio claims to be a pre-candidate for re-election in , although some of his allies defend that he runs for President, despite Bolsonaro’s nomination of Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ), his eldest son. Convicted of an attempted coup d’état, the former president, an ally of the governor of São Paulo, is ineligible.
“This stretch here was designed to be tendered in 2012. It was tendered in 2013 to be ready in 2016,” said the governor during a speech held in a tent on the new highway. “Unfortunately, a Brazilian classic [aconteceu]: the works that are not finished, the works that do not get off the ground”, he added.
Without directly mentioning the Dilma Rousseff (PT) and Geraldo Alckmin (PSB, at the time in the PSDB) governments, he attacked previous administrations. “A big problem arose on this work, the problem of corruption, a wound that plagues Brazil. We faced here, and we saw here, Operation Lava Jato, from those governments that became accustomed to corruption,” he said.
“That’s why this work was stopped, because of Lava Jato and because of corruption”, he added.
Tarcísio also said that the completion of the Rodoanel Norte became a “campaign promise” in the following elections and cited works by his government, with emphasis on metro lines.
“We are making the impossible possible, showing that, without corruption, with work, with dedication, with seriousness, we can do it,” he stated.
In the final stretch of his speech, the governor said he was “really happy” with the works in progress and made a reference to the interventions on the Presidente Dutra highway, which is the responsibility of the federal government.
“I’m very happy, for example, in fact, with the Presidente Dutra highway, which is gaining the new descent of the Serra das Araras, which will be lit from end to end, which is gaining the fourth lane, the third lane [a depender do trecho]and you will gain more security. Highway granted, thought out, worked on, designed, tendered, auctioned, with contracts signed during President Bolsonaro’s administration”, he said.
When mentioning the former president, arrested for leading the coup plot, the public present at the event began to shout “myth”, and Tarcísio interrupted his speech so as not to interrupt the chorus.
The tender for the resumption of the northern section of the Rodoanel was structured under the João Doria government and had the notices published under the Rodrigo Garcia administration, in August 2022. Tarcísio was responsible for completing the procedure initiated by his predecessor.
The completion of the Rodoanel, however, still depends on a second stage of the northern section, which will connect Avenida Raimundo Pereira de Magalhães, in the north of the capital, to the Fernão Dias highway, which should occur in the second half of the year.
