The Polish minister criticized Slovakia’s attitude towards Russian energy: He pointed to the offer from the Croatian prime minister

  • Radoslaw Sikorski criticized the oil purchases of Slovakia and Hungary from Russia.
  • The company JANAF offers Slovakia an alternative oil supply instead of Russia.
  • Sikorski calls on Central European countries to take responsibility for safety.
  • He emphasizes the need for European independence from the United States.

Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs Radoslaw In an interview with the Czech weekly Respekt, Sikorski expressed surprise at the attitudes of Hungary and Slovakia regarding the purchase of oil and natural gas from Russia. According to him, both countries have other options for supplying these raw materials from Europe. This is reported by the Warsaw correspondent TASR according to the Sunday report of the PAP agency.

Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovič announced at the beginning of December that the state-owned oil carrier, Jadranski naftovod (JANAF), can fully supply Slovakia. “If they concluded long-term contracts, the prices would be comparable to those in Russia,” declared Sikorski, adding that he trusts the statements of his colleagues from the European Commission and Croatia in this matter.

The head of Polish diplomacy pointed out the responsibility of Central European countries for their own security and mentioned the historical experience of socialist Czechoslovakia. “Soviet tanks arrived when the Czechoslovakians tried socialism with a human face. This is what limited sovereignty looks like. When the British left, there was no EU invasion of Britain.” said Sikorski.

According to Sikorsky, Europe must take care of its own defense, but he does not think that the United States will turn away from it. He added that a strong European Union is a more demanding negotiating partner for Washington than individual states over which they would have a clear advantage.
