The number of unemployed people registered in employment centers decreased by 7.2% in November, compared to the same month in 2024, but increased by 0.6% compared to October, according to data released this Monday by the Institute of Employment and Professional Training (IEFP).
At the end of November, 299,452 unemployed people were registered with employment services on the Mainland and in the autonomous regions, which corresponds to 67.5% of the total of 443,575 job applications.
The year-on-year decline is explained, according to the IEFP, mainly by the reduction in people registered for less than 12 months (-18,649), people looking for a new job (-18,966) and unemployed people over 25 years old (-17,911). Still, in the monthly comparison, there were 1,730 more people registered than in October.
Algarve is the exception in the year-on-year variation and leads increases compared to October
In regional terms, unemployment fell in November year-on-year in practically the entire country, with the exception of the Algarvesays . As a whole, that is, compared to October, the institute points to a decrease in the North, Center and Lisbon and Tagus Valley regions, but an increase in the remaining regions, with the most significant growth in the Algarve, with 58.8%.
Unskilled workers and services with greater weight
Among the unemployed registered on the Continent, the most representative professional groups were the “unskilled workers” (29.9%) and the “personal, protection, security and sales service workers” (20%). Following are the “specialists in intellectual and scientific activities” (11.1%) and the “administrative staff” (10.2%)according to the IEFP.
Fewer offers and fewer placements than in October
The IEFP also indicates that the job offers received in November totaled 8,746 across the country, 0.6% less than in November 2024 and a drop of 25.2% compared to the previous month.
As for the placementswere carried out 6.830 during November, an increase of 25.6% year-on-year, but a reduction of 16.2% when compared to October.
