“The United States Coast Guard is actively searching for a sanctioned vessel from the clandestine fleet that is part of Venezuela’s illegal sanctions evasion scheme,” a US official told EFE, in response to questions about the ongoing operation.
This Sunday’s vessel “is sailing under a false flag and is subject to a court order of seizure”added the source, without providing further details.
The attempted seizure was initially reported by media outlets as ea who identified the tanker as the ship “Bella 1”with the Panamanian flag, sanctioned by the Department of the Treasury of the United States of America (USA) by alleged ties with Iran.
The vessel was spotted by US forces on the way to Venezuela to load oil. Its current status and whether it is transporting crude oil are unknown.
The President Donald Trump intensified efforts to stop the flow of crude oil from Venezuela, amid growing US pressure on the President’s Government Nicolas Maduro.
