At least two people were killed when a Mexican Navy plane crashed off Texas. The plane on a medical mission was carrying eight people, including a one-year-old child.

At least two people were killed Monday after a small Mexican navy plane crashed off the coast of the US state of Texas, Mexican authorities said. TASR informs according to AP and DPA reports.

King Air ANX 1209 was on a medical mission when it crashed near the island city of Galveston on Monday afternoon local time, the Mexican Navy said in a statement.

Rescue operations

The US Coast Guard said passersby reported the accident at 3:17 p.m. local time (10:17 p.m. CET).

Four of the eight people on board the plane were saved and the remains of two victims were discovered in the meantime. Among the people on board was a one-year-old child – the patient they were transporting.

Two of the people on board were members of the Michou and Mau Foundation, a non-profit organization that provides aid to Mexican children who have suffered severe burns.

Causes of the crash

“Efforts to rescue the other two people inside the crashed plane are continuing,” the statement said.

The cause of the machine crash was not immediately known. It is not clear if the weather was the reason, but fog has been reported in the area for the past few days.
