Bolsonaro’s defense asks Moraes for the former president to undergo surgery on Christmas Day

Lawyers for former president Jair Bolsonaro requested this Tuesday (23) Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), authorization for the former president to be admitted to hospital on Wednesday (24), to perform surgery on Thursday (25), at the DF Star hospital, in Brasília.

The surgical procedure was authorized by Moraes last Thursday (19), after Federal Police expertise confirmed the diagnosis of Bolsonaro’s medical team, which indicated a bilateral inguinal hernia — a condition that affects both sides of the groin region.

Although the surgery is elective, experts recommend that it be performed as soon as possible to avoid worsening the condition.

Bolsonaro has been detained since November 22, when his electronic ankle bracelet was violated. Since then, he has served a sentence of more than 27 years in prison at the PF headquarters in Brasília, after being convicted of serious crimes against the Democratic Rule of Law.

Minister Moraes has already denied the defense’s request for house arrest.

Earlier this Tuesday, the Metrópoles portal reported that Bolsonaro canceled an interview authorized by Moraes, citing health issues.
