Botafogo announces Martín Anselmi as new coach for 2026

Botafogo announced on Monday night (22) the hiring of Martín Anselmi as the team’s coach for 2026. Having recently spent time at Porto, the 40-year-old Argentine coach was free on the market.

He arrives, with a contract until the end of 2027.

“Martín Anselmi is the new coach of Botafogo. Argentino signed a contract with Glorioso for two years. Welcome, professor!”, announced the club on social media.

After rumors about Rafael Guanaes, the Argentine’s name gained strength in speculation at the beginning of this Monday. The expectation was that conversations between him and John Textor would progress throughout the week.

Martín Anselmi had been free on the market since July, at the Club World Cup.

In the group of Palmeiras, Inter Miami and Al-Ahly, the Portuguese team did not advance in the group, with two draws and one defeat.

Anselmi managed the Dragons in 21 matches: with 10 wins, six draws and five defeats.

Anselmi’s career

Before starting his career as a coach, in 2022, Martín Anselmi had brief experience in Brazilian football.

The Argentine was Miguel Ángel Ramírez’s technical assistant at Internacional, between March and June 2021. There were only 22 games in Colorado.

After leaving Inter, Anselmi began working as coach of Union La Calera, in Chile.

In recent years, the Argentine coach played for Del Valle, from Ecuador – where he won four titles, including the 2022 South American Championship -, Cruz Azul of Mexico, and Porto.
