The initiative will have an investment of R$6 million and will be implemented between January 2026 and December 2028, with support from the Brazilian Cooperation Agency of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The objective of the program is to strengthen the ministry and local service networks to prevent and address violence against women and girls, especially in contexts of high social and territorial vulnerability.
The idea is to improve the use of data on the situation of women and girls so that it is possible to support public policies based on evidence, in addition to expanding the technical capacity of public institutions, civil society organizations and community leaders to deal with the issue.
Data show that, on Marajó Island, there are high rates of teenage pregnancy, sexual exploitation of children and adolescents and a lack of specialized services for women in situations of violence.
In Yanomami territory, gender-based violence is worsening due to the humanitarian crisis, food insecurity, impacts of illegal mining and barriers to accessing culturally appropriate public services.
According to the Ministry, the expectation is that the partnership will help strengthen the ministry’s capacity to formulate, implement and monitor policies to combat gender-based violence and improve local service networks in both territories.
