Man who threw traffic officer from overpass is arrested in SP

The man who threw a traffic officer from an overpass in Rodoanel was arrested hours after the crime. The suspect ran over his ex-partner, aged 28, and the traffic officer who was trying to help her. The case occurred on Avenida Papa João XXIII, in Mauá, Greater São Paulo.

According to the Public Security Secretariat, the woman had run out of the suspect’s car and sought help from the traffic officer, identified as Nelson. At that moment, the man accelerated the car and ran over them both. Authorities did not release the names of the suspect and his ex-partner.

The. The woman was rescued and taken to the Santo André Municipal Hospital Center. After committing the crime, the man abandoned the car, a Hyundai HB20, and fled the scene on foot.

The case was registered as homicide and attempted feminicide in the 1st DP of Mauá.

The mayor of Mauá, Marcelo Oliveira, issued a note of condolence and stated that he received the news about the agent’s death with “great sadness”.

“We lost a friend and a co-worker, a dedicated servant, who fulfilled his mission with responsibility and commitment. I deeply sympathize with family, friends and co-workers, wishing them strength and may God comfort everyone in this moment of pain”, says the statement.
