The US must guarantee security guarantees for Ukraine, says Johann Wadephul

German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul emphasized that security guarantees from the US and Europe are crucial for the possible stability of Ukraine in the conflict with Russia.

German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul emphasized the importance of reliable security guarantees from Western countries for Ukraine, especially from the United States. TASR writes about it according to the Tuesday report of the DPA agency.

“This of course means a commitment and a real willingness on the part of those who promise to stand by Ukraine in the event of another Russian attack,” Wadephul told DPA.

Guarantees for Ukraine

According to him, Ukraine can be ready to make concessions, including the possible loss of territory, only if it has a guarantee of security guarantees, especially from the US. He added that the Europeans would have to get involved as well.

How those guarantees will be structured is a question “that we will discuss in more detail once we reach a cease-fire and see that Russia is really willing to seriously consider peace,” Wadephul continued.

Negotiations with Moscow

Although Moscow claims that it is ready to negotiate, according to him, this does not yet mean a real willingness to conclude peace. “We haven’t seen that before,” concluded the German minister.
