US releases over 29,000 pages and videos from investigations into Jeffrey Epstein

The U.S. Department of Justice has released a new set of documents from its investigation into late financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, including closed-circuit camera videos and legal records.

The latest disclosure involves about 29,000 pages, with many redactions and dozens of video clips, including several that appear to have been filmed inside a prison. Epstein was found dead in 2019 after an apparent suicide in a New York prison.

The latest material comes just days after US President Donald Trump’s administration published a large quantity of Epstein’s files in an attempt to comply with a new law mandating disclosure on the politically controversial topic.

However, Friday and Saturday’s posts contained extensive redactions, infuriating some Republicans and doing little to defuse a scandal that threatens the party ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.

On Monday, Trump downplayed the importance of the Epstein files. Speaking to reporters, he said the material was “only used to distract from a tremendous success” of his and his Republican peers.

The new transparency law, passed overwhelmingly by Congress last month, mandated the release of all of Epstein’s files, despite Trump’s months-long effort to keep them secret.
