The Federal Supreme Court (STF) received a new criminal action against the former director of the Brazilian Intelligence Agency (Abin) Alexandre Ramagem (PL-RJ), already convicted in the coup plot process. The case was distributed to Minister Alexandre de Moraes and, if there is a new conviction, a possible sentence could be added to that already served by the former parliamentarian.
The new action deals with two crimes linked to the January 8 attacks that had been suspended while Ramagem held a parliamentary mandate. As the accusations refer to events that occurred after the diploma, the STF had stopped the trial based on the immunity provided for in the Constitution. With the revocation of the mandate, the Court ordered the resumption of the process and reinstated the case as a new criminal action.
Last week, the Board of Directors of the Chamber of Deputies declared the loss of Ramagem’s mandate, who is on the run in the United States. Former deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP), who is also in the country, had his mandate revoked on the same day.

Moraes also designated an evidentiary hearing for February 5, 2026, via videoconference, to hear witnesses from the prosecution and defense and interrogate the defendant. The prosecution is carried out by the Attorney General’s Office (PGR).
In the main case, which has already become final and unappealable, Ramagem was sentenced to 16 years, 1 month and 15 days in prison for participating in the coup attempt to reverse the result of the 2022 elections. After the conviction, he left the country and went to the United States in September, as revealed by the PlatôBR portal. Last month, Moraes ordered the former deputy’s preventive arrest.
