The (Legislative Assembly of São Paulo) approved last Tuesday (16) a project that creates a seal for companies that adopt policies to pay for justified absences of employees who accompany their children or elderly people under their responsibility to medical appointments or school commitments.
The text is authored by , a collective mandate of black women at Alesp. The project awaits sanction from the governor (Republicans).
In their justification, the parliamentarians state that the current context requires greater flexibility to reconcile professional responsibilities with tasks related to family care, especially children and the elderly.
“Currently, Brazilian labor legislation allows only one day of absence per year to take children to medical appointments”, says the text. “Furthermore, it does not provide for the possibility of absence allowance for cases of monitoring hospital admission and participation in school meetings.”
According to the proposal, companies that adopt the practice will receive the Friend of Care Seal, granted by a competent body of the State Public Administration, after proving that they have implemented the policy.
“The Friend of Care Seal recognizes those who already practice social responsibility on a daily basis and creates a concrete incentive for more companies to adopt policies that respect care as part of life”, says Paula Nunes, deputy of the PSOL Feminist Bench. “Valuing these initiatives also in the bidding processes is to align public authorities with a modern, humane and necessary agenda.”
