Bolsonaro leaves prison to undergo surgery – 12/24/2025 – Politics

The former president (PL) left the Superintendency of Brasília, where he serves as State, this Wednesday morning (24), heading to the DF Star hospital, where he will be admitted for surgery on Christmas Day (25).

The minister of the (Supreme Federal Court) authorized the procedure for correction last Friday (19) and agreed with the date requested by the former president’s defense this Tuesday (23).

Inguinal hernia is a condition in which tissue in the abdomen swells and causes a bulge to appear in the groin area.

According to surgeon Claudio Birolini, the procedure has some degree of complexity, but a low morbidity rate. The surgery should last 3 to 4 hours, and Bolsonaro is expected to be hospitalized for between five and seven days, depending on the evolution of his condition.

Moraes’ order determined that the former president’s transportation and security be carried out by the Federal Police in a discreet manner and that disembarkation take place in the hospital garage.

The PF will be responsible for Bolsonaro’s surveillance and security throughout the period of his stay, as well as the hospital, keeping teams on standby.

The corporation must guarantee uninterrupted security and supervision with at least two federal police officers positioned at the door of the hospital room, in addition to the teams it deems necessary, both inside and outside the hospital.

Computers, cell phones or any other electronic devices are prohibited from entering the hospital room, with the exception of medical equipment.

Moraes authorized the presence of his wife, Michelle Bolsonaro, as a companion throughout the former president’s hospitalization. Other visits may only occur with judicial authorization. The defense had asked that his sons Carlos Bolsonaro and Flávio Bolsonaro be released as secondary companions.

Moraes’ decision was made after PF medical expertise stated that the former president would indeed need to undergo elective surgery as quickly as possible.

The report was made by order of the STF minister, who, in the same decision, rejected the request for house arrest based on Bolsonaro’s health condition. The former president has been detained at the PF Superintendence, in Brasília, since November.

According to Moraes, the former president is “in custody in a location absolutely close to the private hospital where he provides emergency health care” and the address would even be closer than his home. Thus, imprisonment in the PF would not harm Bolsonaro in case of need for emergency displacement.
