The National Electric Energy Agency () announced this Tuesday (23) that the tariff flag in January 2026 will be green. In other words, there will be no extra cost on your electricity bill for the first month of the year.

The regulatory agency reported that the volume of rain recorded in November and December contributed to the increase in the level of the plants’ reservoirs. “It will not be necessary to dispatch the thermoelectric plants in the same quantity as the previous month, which avoids charging additional costs to the consumer’s energy bill,” said Aneel.

For December, the agency stipulated . This means that for every 100 kilowatt-hours (kWh) consumed, an extra charge of R$1.88 was generated. In the previous month, the category was in force which resulted in an additional cost of R$4.46 for every 100kWh.

Created in 2015, the tariff flag mechanism indicates to the consumer the real cost of energy in Brazil. The system considers the availability of water resources, the advancement of renewable sources and the activation of generation sources, such as thermoelectric plants. When energy production becomes more expensive, there is an extra charge.
