British comedian Russell Brand was indicted this Tuesday (23) in yet another case of rape and sexual assault. According to the London Metropolitan Police, the new accusations “involve two new women and add to the allegations already which involved four” girls.
The comedian is scheduled to appear in court in the British capital on January 20 for a hearing on the new charges.
The trial on the first allegations is scheduled to begin on June 16 at Southwark Criminal Court. The comedian will be tried for two rapes and several sexual assaults he is accused of committing in the coastal region of Bournemouth, in southern England, and in London, from 1999 to 2005.
After the announcement of the new accusations, Brand declared, through a post on his profile on X (formerly Twitter), that he feels “blessed” to “have the opportunity” to atone for many things he did wrong over the years. “I pray to the Lord that anyone I have harmed during my years of out of control and sin will be healed,” he wrote.
The police investigation against Russell Brand was opened after the in September 2023. At the time, the comedian, who lives part of the time in the United States, rejected the accusations and said he was “grateful to have the opportunity” to defend himself.
“I was an idiot before I lived in the light of the Lord. I was a drug addict, a sex addict and an imbecile, but I was never a rapist”, he stated in a video published on social media, ensuring that he had “never been involved in a relationship without consent”.
Born in 1975 into a family of modest Essex origin, Brand has millions of followers on social media, where he frequently expresses anti-establishment and conspiratorial ideas. He began his career as a stand-up comedian as a teenager and gained notoriety for his provocative and often lewd humor before becoming an actor.
