The doctors treating (PL) are considering subjecting the former president to a procedure to control his hiccups, in addition to the hernia correction surgery already scheduled for Thursday (25).
The information was given by members of the medical team to journalists this Wednesday (24) in front of the DF Star hospital, in Brasília, where the politician is hospitalized.
“It is planned to carry out an anesthetic procedure, which would be an anesthetic block of the phrenic nerve. An anesthesia of the nerve that innervates the diaphragm. After this hernia surgery, we will reevaluate this situation and see if it is appropriate to carry out this anesthetic block, which is a relatively safe procedure, but which is not the standard for the treatment of hiccups. We really need to see if this justifies the benefit, the risk”, said doctor Claudio Birolini.
He explained that this is not a surgical procedure, and that it will not be done in conjunction with the hernia operation. “If we carry out this anesthetic block procedure, it will possibly be done at the beginning of the week,” he declared.
The doctor also said that the new surgery cannot be performed laparoscopically, a less invasive technique than the traditional one, because of the previous operations Bolsonaro has already undergone.

Bolsonaro’s surgery had to be authorized by the minister of the (Supreme Federal Court) Alexandre de Moraes because the former president is serving a sentence after being convicted in the coup plot process.
The politician left the Federal Police Superintendency earlier this Wednesday to go to the hospital. His wife, Michelle Bolsonaro, and his children Flávio, Carlos Jair Renan and Laura are authorized to visit him during his hospitalization, but without carrying cell phones or other electronic devices.
