Access to various Social Security supports, with emphasis on subsidies linked to parenthood, can now be done completely digitally. The change allows applications to be submitted through Social Security Direct, without the need to visit customer service counters, concentrating the entire process in a single online portal.
According to the Social Security website, this simplification aims to make citizens’ contact with public services faster, more comfortable and accessible, reducing waiting times and eliminating bureaucratic steps that until now required physical presence.
Support available in digital format
Through the Portal, citizens can now submit various requests related to parental protection online. Among the support available is the initial parental benefit, which includes the possibility of previously simulating amounts and grant periods, as well as the initial parental social benefit.
The extended parental allowance, the child care allowance and the allowance for specific risks, applicable in situations where there are limitations to the exercise of professional activity for reasons associated with pregnancy or parenthood, are also accessible.
The request must be made in the personal area of Social Security Direct. In the main menu, simply select the Family option and then Maternity and Paternity, where you will find the forms and instructions necessary for each installment.
According to the same source, the entire procedure is carried out digitally, without in-person delivery of documents. The beneficiary can also choose to pay by bank transfer, ensuring faster receipt of the allocated amounts.
Simulate before submitting the request
Before proceeding with any application, the same source recommends using the Parenting Simulator. This tool allows you to anticipate the amounts and duration of support, helping to plan leave periods and the respective income with greater clarity.
There is also a more comprehensive social benefits simulator, available on the portal, which allows you to check possible eligibility for more than 60 subsidies and benefits. Completing the questionnaire takes, on average, seven minutes, with a set of indicative support being presented at the end.
The results obtained are not binding, but serve as useful guidance to understand which benefits may be required and which path to follow to formalize the request.
What is needed for a correct simulation
To answer the simulator’s questions more accurately, it is important to gather some data in advance. One of the main elements requested is the value of annual gross income, which corresponds to the sum of all income before deductions, including salaries, pensions, rent and other earnings.
The value of the movable assets is also requested, which includes bank deposits and financial products such as shares, bonds, savings certificates or participation units in investment funds, and the amount existing at the date of the request must be indicated.
When applicable, the degree of incapacity or disability must also be mentioned. This information is contained in the Medical Certificate of Multipurpose Disability, obtained after evaluation by a medical board at the health center.
According to , the results of the simulations may not accurately reflect situations in which there is residence, current or past work abroad.
Furthermore, the benefits presented only concern the person carrying out the simulation and their dependents, and other members of the household must make independent requests when applicable, explains the same entity.
