The president of the Chamber, Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB), became closer to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in recent days with frequent visits to the Palácio do Planalto, giving approval to the new Minister of Tourism, Gustavo Feliciano, and with an agenda with his father, Nabor Wanderley (Republicanos-PB), in the face-to-face office in search of support for his candidacy for the Senate. The movement occurs after a phase of mutual distrust between Lula and Hugo Motta.
The rapprochement with Hugo Motta is part of the Palácio do Planalto’s strategy to improve the relationship with the Chamber of Deputies, in a kind of renegotiation of Lula’s relationship with Motta with a focus on the election year and after the tensions with the House. Since last Thursday, Motta has participated in four events and private agendas at Palácio do Planalto.
Last Thursday afternoon, Motta attended Feliciano’s presentation to Lula. A day earlier, the Chief Executive and the President of the Chamber had spoken by phone about the change.

On the same day, Motta accompanied the president at the inauguration of a model of the work to transpose the São Francisco River. Lula asked Motta to use 3D glasses to take a virtual tour of the model installed on the first floor of the Palácio do Planalto and spoke to the parliamentary side.
This Tuesday, Hugo Motta was one of the protagonists at the inauguration of the new Minister of Tourism. When speaking, the president of the Chamber stated that the new minister’s management will have support and will be built together with parliament. When addressing Lula, he said that Gustavo Feliciano “will earn your trust”:
— Gustavo will have the support of the Parliament, the Chamber, the deputies, to help his management with resources, with actions, so that together we can increasingly strengthen the actions so that Brazil can be that tourist destination sought by everyone — said Motta — I have no doubt that together we will build this management, this work that will certainly make good on the trust that you (President Lula) are having in dear Gustavo Feliciano — stated the president of the Chamber.
With Motta’s endorsement to reach Lula’s top tier, Feliciano made direct mention of the ally’s support and said that the “Ministry of Tourism is his home”:
— President Hugo, a man from Paraíba taking over the Ministry of the Republic is an indisputable reflection of his discreet, but undeniable, strong leadership. The Ministry of Tourism is your home, because Paraíba is grateful for your support — said the new minister.
Also on Tuesday, Hugo Motta took his father, Nabor Wanderley, to a conversation with Lula in the face-to-face office. Mayor of Patos (PR), Nabor Wanderley is a pre-candidate for Senate in Paraíba and wants to have the support of Lula and Governor João Azevedo, who followed the conversation in Planalto. This articulation was in favor of the appointment of Gustavo Feliciano to the Ministry of Tourism.

Feliciano was João Azevedo’s Secretary of Tourism in his first term and now Hugo Motta has an ally of his commanding a department that has a capillarity of deliveries. Lula is already committed to building Senate slates of parliamentarians who could be allies for a possible fourth term.
While at Palácio do Planalto, Hugo Motta also participated in the signing ceremony of the decree that recognizes gospel music as a cultural manifestation. The event was attended by evangelical parliamentarians, such as senator Eliziane Gama (PSB), deputy Otoni de Paula (MDB-RJ) and deputy Benedita da Silva (PT-RJ).
