A Christmas tree appears in almost every home during Christmas. Some choose the artificial version, while others invest in living treewhich smells beautiful.
Natural wood adds a special atmosphere to the interior, but if it is not properly cared for, its appearance may quickly deteriorate. What to do when a spruce starts losing needles? We show you how to make sure your Christmas tree survives until Christmas in perfect condition.
During the holiday season, we usually choose spruce, pine or fir trees for our homes to decorate them beautifully for Christmas. It is worth remembering that Norway spruce has a slightly greater tendency to shed needles – especially in a dry and warm room. It is best to buy a tree just before Christmas. Then we can be sure that it will survive in good shape. Silver spruce or Caucasian fir are much more durable.
However, if we have a tree at home that is losing needles, it is not always the fault of the selected species. The conditions in the house or apartment are also important. After bringing the Christmas tree to the site, do not immediately put it in a corner near the radiator. It should first go to a cool place, such as a hallway or basement. The tree must first get used to the change in conditions.
Living trees do not like high temperatures. They feel best when the air is around 20-22 degrees Celsius. They must not be placed next to heat sources, such as or fireplace. When buying a Christmas tree for your home, choose a well-rooted one. Short, damaged roots will not be able to absorb sufficient nutrients from the ground, which contributes to the rapid deterioration of the plant’s condition.
If we provide the Christmas tree with appropriate indoor conditions and its condition is still poor, it is worth considering whether we water it often enough. Living trees need water. They should be watered with lukewarm or room temperature water.
It is also worth using a home-made conditioner. We can prepare it very easily with water, sugar and salt. Just dissolve two tablespoons of sugar and two tablespoons of salt in a liter of water, and then water the plant with this mixture. Homemade Christmas tree conditioner will strengthen the tree and slow down the process of needles falling.
