So far, peace is only on paper. Ukraine refuses concessions and Russia continues its attacks

Attempts at peace in Ukraine are progressing. Four key documents aimed at post-conflict security and prosperity are being discussed.

As part of the negotiations to end the war in Ukraine, four documents are currently being discussed, which deal with the 20-point peace plan or the issue of security guarantees. US Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker said this in an interview with Fox News. According to him, Russia is now on the move, reports TASR.

Over the weekend, American officials held negotiations with Ukrainian and European delegations in the city of Miami, and they also had separate talks with representatives of Russia. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi subsequently stated that several draft documents regarding security guarantees for Ukraine, its reconstruction and the basic framework for ending the war had been prepared.

Whitaker indicated in the interview that there are four documents on the table that are being discussed in real time: a draft 20-point peace plan, multilateral security guarantees, specific security guarantees from the US, and also a plan for economic growth and prosperity after peace.

According to the American ambassador, the negotiating parties are now closer to achieving peace in Ukraine than ever before. He said the United States has a pretty good idea of what Ukraine wants while trying to understand what concessions Russia is willing to make.

“I mean, they’re constantly launching massive nighttime attacks on Ukraine. That speaks for itself to some extent,” Whitaker said, stressing that Moscow is not alone in showing concern over its own losses in the war against Ukraine. “Russia has never been willing to admit (losses) and has always been willing to bear more than most countries,” the US ambassador noted.

The US has been pressuring Ukraine for a long time to make peace with Russia as quickly as possible. Therefore, Ukraine is trying to balance the original draft of the peace agreement, which, according to Reuters, was generally considered favorable to Moscow. For example, he demanded that Ukraine cede territory to Russia that it had not yet conquered and limit the size of its army.
