The numbers related to domestic violence in the state of Rio de Janeiro are growing. According to data from the Judicial Observatory on Violence against Women, from the TJRJ (Court of Justice of Rio de Janeiro). The TJRJ held 33,562 hearings on gender-based violence, an increase of 4%.
Only in 2025, more than thirty thousand urgent protective measures were filed in Rio de Janeiro. Although feminicides showed a slight drop, compared to last year, there were 93 in 2025, compared to 100 in 2024, sentences and hearings went up.
There were 68,743 sentences related to violence against women, between January and November, 6.57% more than the same period in 2024. T4,771 arrests of attackers were also made, compared to 4,578 in the previous year.
In March, the month that celebrates International Women’s Day, 14 deaths were recorded, the worst monthly rate of the year. New domestic violence cases increased from 69,597 in 2024 to 71,762 this year.
Children and teenagers
The data also reveals the impact of violence on children and adolescents. 58 female victims and their minor children were sent to shelters as an emergency protection measure.
Cejuvida (Judicial Center for Provisional Shelter for Women Victims of Domestic Violence) provided 7,740 services. Created to support women and their children in situations of serious threat, Cejuvida operates in an integrated manner with the Judiciary Duty, offering support to magistrates and police officers outside forensic hours.
The center guarantees the quick and safe referral of victims to shelters, ensuring immediate protection and preservation of life. The initiative reinforces the coordination between the Judiciary, public security and the social protection network in combating domestic violence in the state.
