The popular actor Tomáš Holý starred in several legendary films. However, he could not develop his acting talent for long, as a 21-year-old lost his life in a huge tragedy, writes a Czech newspaper
His first minor role was in the cult comedy Marečka, give me a pen!, but people will always remember him as the absent-minded Vašek. Despite the fact that his star shot to the heights and as a child he also appeared in many television shows and New Year’s Eve programs, years later he stopped devoting himself to acting and started studying at the university.
As an adult, he stopped filming at all and started studying law. He did not live to see a promising career as a lawyer. Tomáš Holé’s life ended just nine days before his 22nd birthday in a car accident on March 8, 1990. In the rented vehicle, he failed to make a sharp turn and hit a tree head-on. His injuries were too serious and he succumbed to internal bleeding on the way to the hospital in Česká Lípa.
Český reports on the details of what happened on the fateful day. “He willingly went from the pub to the cottage on foot to get the huge cartridge, loaded it into Tomáš Kordač’s car and brought it to the pub. But he didn’t return the keys to him. And he continued to sit with the others in the pub,” stated the Czech writer and poet Ota Kars in his book called Volám sa Tomáš.
It should have happened when Tomáš traveled to Luboš Čiper’s cottage, just a day after Tomáš had a holiday. This trip was fatal for him. Tomáš’s friend Mirek Schlaichert clarified what happened on that unfortunate day. “I think that in the toilet, Tomas suggested that we take Kordač’s car for a ride. We both drank something, certainly a few beers. I don’t know whether it was half-brewers.” Mirek thought.
At the same time, he assessed that although they were under the influence of alcohol, they did not drink so much that they fell. He doesn’t even remember that, God forbid, their knees would give out and they would fumble. He added that at the time they perceived that they were okay and emphasized that it was not a good idea.
He mentioned that if he had refused, Tomas himself would not have gone anywhere at all. According to him, they went from Polevsko towards Kytlica for about five kilometers. Mirek Schlaichert further described that he doesn’t remember that much anymore. “I know that we first stopped there quite early, peed, turned around and went back. I guess we realized that it’s nonsense. We were going back, we didn’t know it there at all,” he pointed out that the accident happened when they came off the bend that was above the pub.
“After that, we first hit a tree and flew into a ditch, where the car crashed into such an overhang. But I only know that from the later reconstruction. I don’t remember anything about it,” added Mirek.
He also mentioned how he tried to help Tomáš. It happened after he recovered. He tried to get away from the car, which he did. Then he tried to get Tomas out of there too. According to him, Tomáš was caught by his legs in the car and did not react at all. In shock, he tried to run for help. But in the end it was too late for my friend.
