Elective procedure corrected bilateral inguinal hernia at DF Star hospital, under general anesthesia, and was uneventful, according to the medical team
The medical team reported that former president Jair Bolsonaro’s surgery was successfully completed this Thursday (25), at the DF Star hospital, in Brasília. The procedure ended at 12:55 pm, after approximately three hours, and was uneventful.
Bolsonaro underwent bilateral inguinal herniorrhaphy, indicated to correct hernias on both sides of the groin region. The operation began at around 9 am, under general anesthesia.
According to the hospital, pre-operative examinations, including cardiological assessment and surgical risk analysis, indicated that the patient was fit for the intervention.

According to doctors, an inguinal hernia occurs when part of the intestine or abdominal tissue protrudes through a point of weakness in the muscles, forming an opening near the groin. In the procedure performed, this defect is corrected by repositioning the tissue and strengthening the abdominal wall.
The team opted for the conventional technique, considered more appropriate to the former president’s clinical condition. Unlike laparoscopy, which uses small cuts and a camera, the open method involves a direct incision in the affected region.
The hospital informed that post-operative monitoring will continue according to the patient’s clinical evolution.
