Lula calls for expulsion of civil servant accused of attacking woman and child in DF

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) ordered the immediate opening of an administrative process to investigate and hold accountable a civil servant from the Comptroller General of the Union accused of attacking his ex-girlfriend and her four-year-old son in Águas Claras, in the Federal District.

In a post on social media this Thursday (25), Lula classified the episode as “inadmissible” and stated that the conduct requires a firm response from the Public Authorities.

According to the president, as it involves a federal employee, the case cannot be treated as a private matter. He stated that he ordered Minister Vinícius Marques de Carvalho to immediately initiate an internal procedure with a view to holding the attacker accountable and expulsion from public service.

“We will not turn a blind eye to the aggressors of women and children, wherever they are,” wrote Lula, adding that civil servants must set an example of conduct inside and outside of work.

The attack occurred on the night of December 7 and was recorded by security cameras in the building where the victim lives. The images show the man next to the woman, who was holding her son on her lap, waiting for the elevator. After a brief conversation, he starts attacking them with punches and slaps for around 20 seconds.

Even after mother and child fall to the ground, the attacker still slaps the boy on the head again, until he is restrained by the woman.

The suspect was identified as David Cosac Junior, a 49-year-old CGU systems analyst. The Civil Police of the Federal District is investigating the case, but did not say whether there was an arrest. In the police report, according to the police, the server claimed that he had ended the relationship and that the episode resulted from a disagreement.

In a statement, Minister Vinícius Marques de Carvalho stated that the facts are “very serious and unacceptable” and highlighted that violence against women and children is a crime and cannot be relativized as a personal conflict.

He informed that the CGU has already adopted immediate administrative measures, including forwarding the case to the General Inspectorate of the Union and the Ethics Commission, revoking any management functions held by the employee and prohibiting him from entering the agency’s buildings while the investigations continue.
