President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva ordered the opening of an internal process for the accountability and dismissal of the auditor of the Comptroller General of the Union (CGU) David Cosac Júnior, caught on video attacking a woman and a child in a residential condominium in Águas Claras, in the Federal District.

The case occurred on December 7 and became public after the images were released by the press. The videos show the server punching, slapping and kicking the woman, who was holding a four-year-old child in her lap, in the building’s parking area. The attacks lasted around 20 seconds and only stopped when mother and son fell to the ground.

In a note released this Thursday (25), Lula classified the episode as “inadmissible” and stated that he ordered Minister Vinicius Marques de Carvalho, controller general of the Union, to immediately open an administrative process to expel the attacker from public service. “We will not turn a blind eye to the aggressors of women and children, wherever they are. A public servant must be an example of conduct inside and outside the workplace”, declared the president.

According to the Civil Police, the incident was registered after a complaint from the condominium’s deputy manager, who accompanied the police officers to the auditor’s apartment. At the police station, David Cosac Júnior stated that the attacks had occurred after the relationship with the woman ended. The victim was interviewed by phone, but chose not to file a police report. Despite the seriousness of the case, the server was not arrested.

Before the president’s statement, the CGU had already announced administrative measures. In a statement, Minister Vinicius Marques de Carvalho stated that the attacks are “very serious and unacceptable” and highlighted that violence against women and children is a crime. Among the measures adopted are the opening of a preliminary investigation by the General Inspectorate of the Union and the Ethics Commission, the removal of the auditor from leadership duties, the prohibition of his entry into CGU buildings and the referral of the case to the competent authorities.

Lula reinforced that combating feminicide and all forms of violence against women is a priority for his government and stated that public authorities will give a firm response to the episode.
