Suspect of triple family homicide in Cape Verde was arrested in Lisbon

The Judiciary Police (PJ) arrested, this Thursday, in Lisbon, the 19-year-old German young man suspected of the triple homicide that occurred on Tuesday in São Vicente, Cape Verde, which killed his father and his wife and stepdaughter.

In a statement, the PJ stated that the arrest occurred in the context of a European arrest warrant issued by German authorities and that the suspect was located in the district of Lisbon “after intense and painstaking work on international cooperation and information analysis”.

The 19 year old will have traveled to the Portuguese capital after committing the crime and the PJ began measures after issuing the European arrest warrant, “having detected today, December 25th, his presence in a hotel in Lisbon and proceeded with his arrest”.

According to the criminal investigation police, the circumstances of the triple homicide are still to be determined.

“The Judiciary Police is acting in close coordination with the German authorities and its counterpart in Cape Verde. The detainee will be brought before the court in turn within the legal deadline, for a decision and application of a coercive measure”, he said.

Three citizens of German nationality were found dead, on Tuesday, inside a residence on the island of São Vicentewith signs of homicide with use of a melee weaponas found by the Cape Verde PJ. To the The victims are a 60-year-old man and two women, aged 45 and 20.identified as his wife and stepdaughter.

The Cape Verdean PJ identified as main suspect the 19 year old son of the murdered manwho was also in Cape Verde on vacation with his family. According to the Cape Verde Judicial Police, the suspect has history of psychological disorders and will have left the country on Tuesday, before the bodies were discovered and the case was reported to the authorities.
