Russia denies reports of demands for changes to Ukraine’s peace plan. The spokeswoman of the Department of Diplomacy described the claims as false.
Moscow on Thursday denied a Bloomberg report that Russia intends to demand major changes in the latest version of the US peace plan for Ukraine. The information in the agency’s article, which refers to a source close to the Kremlin, was called false by the spokeswoman of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Marija Zakharova, TASS reported.
- Russia did not agree to the alleged changes in the peace plan.
- The spokeswoman announced the falsity of Bloomberg news.
- Zelensky presented a 20-point peace proposal for Ukraine.
- The Kremlin is analyzing proposals submitted by diplomats for peace agreements.
- Moscow expects a solution to Ukraine’s military and territorial issues.
“It’s fake news,” Zakharova wrote in the Telegram application. “This media has no reliable sources close to the Kremlin. It has only unreliable sources. And the wording about ‘close to the Kremlin’ is just a cover for fake news,” added the diplomat, according to TASS.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi on Wednesday outlined for the first time the main points of the draft 20-point peace plan discussed by Ukrainian and American negotiators in Miami, which he said could become the basis of future agreements to end the war with Russia.
The Kremlin examined the proposal
Russian President Vladimir Putin’s spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, said on Thursday that the Kremlin is analyzing proposals delivered to the head of state by Russian negotiator and special envoy Kirill Dmitriyev. This past weekend, he also held talks in Miami with the envoy of the US president, Steve Witkoff, and the son-in-law of the head of the White House, Jared Kushner.
The Bloomberg agency, citing an unnamed source, said that Russia will demand fundamental changes in the latest draft of the peace plan, which should also include greater restrictions on the Ukrainian army. According to this source, Moscow considers the 20-point plan drawn up by Ukraine and the US as a starting point for further negotiations, as it does not contain provisions important to Russia and does not address many issues.
Kyiv and Washington have not yet been able to agree on long-term territorial issues and the status of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. Zelenskyy called for negotiations with US President Donald Trump in order to resolve them. But the new proposal does not, for example, require Ukraine to give up its ambition to join the North Atlantic Alliance (NATO).
According to TASS, the Kremlin and the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs have repeatedly pointed out that Moscow is not satisfied with several points of Ukraine’s plan. TASS writes that Russia mainly demands the complete withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from the Donbass, the formal renunciation of NATO membership ambitions by Kiev, and also the limitation of the size of the Ukrainian army.
