Taynara Souza Santos, 31 years old, died on the night of Wednesday (24), victim of being run over and dragged on November 29, in the north of São Paulo. She had been hospitalized at Hospital das Clínicas (HC) for around 25 days and did not survive the complications resulting from her injuries. The death was confirmed by family members and the lawyer who is following the case.

In a post on social media, Taynara’s mother, Lúcia Aparecida Souza da Silva, stated that her daughter’s “suffering is over” and asked for justice. “It’s a huge pain, but the suffering is over. Now it’s time to ask for justice,” he wrote. She also thanked the messages of support and prayers received since the incident.

The crime took place in the early hours of November 29, in Parque Novo Mundo, after Taynara left a bar where she had spent the night partying. According to investigations, there was an argument motivated by jealousy. Outside the establishment, Douglas Alves da Silva, 26, got into a Volkswagen Golf and advanced towards the victim. Taynara fell, was trapped under the vehicle and was dragged for about a kilometer to Marginal Tietê.

Images from security cameras and videos recorded by witnesses recorded the moment of the collision and the path along which the victim was dragged. Drivers alerted the driver, who fled the scene.

Taynara was rescued in a very serious condition and initially taken to the Vereador José Storopolli Municipal Hospital, before being transferred to the HC. During his hospitalization, he underwent at least three surgeries and had both legs amputated. In recent days, she underwent a new procedure, which included amputation in the thigh region, tracheostomy and reconstructive plastic surgery. The clinical condition worsened after the most recent surgery, and the young woman died around 7pm on Christmas Eve.

Mother of two children, a 12-year-old boy and a 7-year-old girl, Taynara had the case initially investigated as an attempted femicide. With death, the classification of the crime must be reviewed by the Court.

Douglas Alves da Silva was arrested on November 30 and remains in custody. At the time of his arrest, he tried to react and was shot by a police officer. To the police, he stated that he did not intend to hit Taynara, but rather the man who accompanied her, a version contested by the investigation and witness reports. He is charged with feminicide and attempted murder and remains at the disposal of the Judiciary.
