Tainara Souza Santos had been hospitalized since November 29th and had had both legs amputated; case remains under investigation
Taynara Souza Santos, aged 31, died on Wednesday night (24), victim of an attempted femicide that occurred on November 29, on Marginal Tietê, in the north of São Paulo. The young woman had been hospitalized at the Hospital das Clínicas (HC) since the beginning of the month and did not survive complications resulting from her injuries. The information was confirmed by family members and the lawyer who is following the case.
Taynara spent 25 days in hospital. Initially, she was rescued in a very serious condition and taken to the Vereador José Storopolli Municipal Hospital, being later transferred to the HC. During her hospitalization, she underwent at least three surgeries and had both legs amputated after being run over and dragged for around a kilometer. She came out of the induced coma and was extubated, but her clinical condition worsened after a new surgery carried out on Tuesday (23).
According to the family, the most recent procedure involved a new amputation in the thigh region, necessary to reconstruct the glutes, in addition to a tracheostomy and reconstructive plastic surgery. On Wednesday afternoon, relatives were called to the hospital again to say goodbye to the young woman. Taynara died around 7pm, on Christmas Eve. Until the last update, there was no information about the wake and burial.
Mother of two children, a 12-year-old boy and a 7-year-old girl, Taynara was the victim of attempted femicide after leaving a bar in Parque Novo Mundo, in the early hours of November 29th. According to the investigation, she had spent the night partying with a friend and an acquaintance when she was approached by the attacker, Douglas Alves da Silva, 26, the victim’s former partner.
Witnesses reported that there was an argument motivated by jealousy inside the establishment. Outside, Douglas got into a car, a black Volkswagen Golf, advanced towards Taynara and ran her over. The victim was trapped under the vehicle and was dragged from Avenida Morvan Dias de Figueiredo to Rua Manguari, on Marginal Tietê. Images from security cameras and videos recorded by witnesses recorded the crime and the attacker’s escape.
Douglas was arrested on November 30th. At the time of his arrest, he tried to react and take a police officer’s gun, and was shot. He was taken to a hospital, received medical attention and then taken to the police station. To the police, he stated that he intended to hit a man who accompanied Taynara, a version disputed by investigations.
The case was treated by the Civil Police as an attempted feminicide with extreme cruelty. With the death of the victim, the classification of the crime must be reviewed by the Court. The suspect remains in custody and is at the disposal of the Judiciary.
