Woman who was dragged along Marginal dies in hospital in SP

Tainara Souza Santos, 31 years old, the woman who was run over and dragged for about a kilometer along Marginal Tietê, died this Wednesday (24), at Hospital das Clínicas, in the west zone of São Paulo, at around 7pm.

Tainara’s mother, Lúcia Aparecida Souza da Silva, published a note on her social networks lamenting her daughter’s death. “It is with great pain that I come to inform you that our Little Warrior, Tay, has left us. She has just left this Cruel world and is with God. It is a huge pain, but it is over. The suffering now is asking for justice”, says Tainara’s mother.

Since November 29th, when Tainara was the victim of an attempted femicide, she has undergone more than four surgical procedures. Among them are the amputation of both legs below the knee line.

A video obtained by CNN Brazil shows the victim walking down the street with a man, in the morning of November 29th. The pair leave the security camera’s angle and, 30 seconds later, the camera captures the collision.

The driver, identified as Douglas Alves da Silva, 26 years old, not only runs over her, but runs over the woman with his car and drags her along the street. Watch:

A second video, taken by a person driving on Marginal Tietê, shows the man dragging the woman for a long distance along the avenue.

After the crime, the 31-year-old victim was rescued and taken in serious condition to the Hospital Municipal Vereador José Storopolli, with apparent injuries to the face and both legs.

Suspect’s arrest

Identified as Douglas Alves da Silva, aged 26, the driver was arrested on the night of November 30.

O man was wanted for attempted femicide and had the intention of running over and killing the victim, according to the SSP-SP (Public Security Secretariat of the State of São Paulo). The suspect was approached by agents at a hotel in Vila Prudente, in the east zone of the capital of São Paulo, where he was staying.

When the police entered the hotel room, Douglas resisted, “violently attacked” one of the police officers and tried to take the firearm from the agent’s hand, according to the police report.

In the action, an investigator carried out a shot that hit the criminal’s arm. The other agent immobilized Douglas and, in the restraint, injured his finger.

The suspect received medical help and was taken to Vila Alpina Municipal Hospital, also in the East zone. After being discharged, the man was taken to the 4th Siege Section (Special Corps for the Repression of Organized Crime), in the north of the capital.

He was kept in prison after undergo a custody hearing on December 1st. Currently he is detained at the Provisional Detention Center II of Guarulhosin SP.
