After conviction, former PRF director, Silvinei Vasques, is arrested in Paraguay, says website

The former director of the Federal Highway Police, Silvinei Vasques, was arrested this Friday (26) while trying to board a flight at Silvio Pettirossi International Airport, in Paraguay. The information was published by Andréia Sadi’s blog, on G1

Silvinei was under house arrest in Santa Catarina, but left Brazil without judicial authorization after breaking his electronic ankle bracelet. The former director was detained while trying to board a flight to El Salvador, a country governed by an ally of American President Donald Trump.

According to the column, Silvinei used an original Paraguayan passport, but it did not correspond to his identity. When trying to leave the airport, he was detained by Paraguayan authorities.

With his arrest, Silvinei is now at the disposal of the Paraguayan Public Ministry and is expected to be handed over soon to the Brazilian authorities.

Coup plot

Unanimously, the former director of the PRF was sentenced on December 16 by the Federal Supreme Court to 24 years in prison for the crimes of criminal organization, attempted violent abolition of the Democratic Rule of Law, coup d’état, qualified damage due to violence and serious threat and deterioration of listed property.

According to the STF, Vasques was part of the so-called Nucleus 2 of the coup plot and would have acted to block the movement of voters for then-candidate Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) in the second round of the 2022 elections.

Silvinei had already been arrested in 2023 and released in August of the same year with the condition of precautionary measures. Since then, he continued to be monitored.
