An attacker stabbed three women in the Paris metro

The police have already detained the suspect in the attack on three women in the Paris metro. They qualified the case as attempted murder.

Three women were stabbed on Friday in a series of attacks by an unknown assailant in the Paris metro. In the meantime, the police arrested him, TASR writes, according to the report of the AFP agency.

According to the Paris transport company RATP, the attacks took place at three different metro stations in central Paris – Opéra, Arts et Métiers and République – between 16:15 and 16:45. The attacker fled the scene after the attack. According to Le Figaro, the police caught him at his home in the Paris suburb of Sarcelles.

Attacks on stations

According to information from witnesses, the attacks were carried out with a sharp object and the victims suffered injuries of varying intensity. Two of the victims are still hospitalized. The third, who suffered only superficial injuries, was discharged home after treatment.

The police have not yet given the motive for the attacks or other details about the arrested perpetrator. However, according to Le Figaro, the detained man is known to local law enforcement for his previous crimes.

The investigation continues

The prosecutor’s office in Paris has opened an investigation into the case and has so far classified it as attempted murder. Meanwhile, the transport company RATP has increased security measures at metro stations in the capital.

Metro officials said security patrols were visibly reinforced at the stations, as were a number of police units. Minister of Internal Affairs Gérald Darmanin strongly condemned the attacks and expressed solidarity with the survivors.
