A Brazilian woman who works as a waitress in England should receive compensation after winning a racial discrimination lawsuit. Ana Beatriz Machado, 30 years old, born in Sorocaba (SP), was harassed by her colleagues due to her accent.
Information obtained by the British outlet Telegraph indicated that Ana worked as a colleague and said she “didn’t like her voice” and that customers “didn’t understand her”. Furthermore, she was fired after being accused of stealing money from the place to send to her family in Brazil.
The case happened in December 2021, when another waitress also said that the Brazilian woman was “strange” and “had difficulty communicating”.

Ana also filed another lawsuit contesting her dismissal, in December 2022, accused of embezzling money from the bar. In an interview with the Telegraph, Ana Beatriz said that the case caused anxiety and depression, causing her to stop eating and sleeping, and that she had to resort to food banks to feed her five-year-old daughter. Now, she works at a Hooters bar.
