The municipal secretary of Production and Sustainability of Jordão, in the interior of Acre, Eudes Mendes, found a poraquê, a type of electric fish, in a flooded area in the rural area of the municipality after a period of heavy rain.

During the video, Mendes used a lamp to test the animal’s electrical discharge. When touching the device to the porch, the lamp lit up, confirming the emission of electrical energy by the fish.
The poraquê is a typical species of the Amazon region and can produce electrical discharges exceeding 600 volts, used both for defense and for capturing prey. During the rainy season, rising water levels favor the movement of these animals, making their appearance in flooded areas close to rural communities common.
