Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), ordered this Friday (26) the preventive detention of the former director general of the Federal Highway Police Silvinei Vasques, after finding non-compliance with the precautionary measures imposed on the defendant.
The decision was taken after the Federal Police identified the disruption of monitoring of the electronic ankle bracelet used by Vasques in the early hours of December 25th.
According to the corporation, the equipment stopped emitting a GPS signal and, subsequently, lost data communication, a hypothesis attributed to battery exhaustion or deliberate interference with the device.

After the monitoring system failed, PF agents went to the address given by the former PRF director, in São José, Greater Florianópolis, but did not find him in the apartment.
A few hours later, Vasques was located at Silvio Pettirossi International Airport, in Asunción, Paraguay, while trying to board an international flight using a Paraguayan document considered apparently false. He ended up detained by local authorities.
In the decision, Moraes stated that the set of information gathered in the case “demonstrates the violation of the precautionary measure of electronic monitoring and indicates the execution of the escape”, which, according to the minister, constitutes a concrete risk to the application of criminal law.
The judge also highlighted that, when granting provisional release to the former director of the PRF in August 2024, he made it clear that any failure to comply with the conditions imposed would result in immediate imprisonment.
The former director of the PRF was sentenced by the STF to a total sentence of 24 years and six months, including 22 years in prison, two years and six months in detention, in addition to the payment of 100 days’ fine, set at the value of one minimum wage per day.
