Moraes ordered prison after ankle bracelet broke – 12/26/2025 – Politics

Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the (Supreme Federal Court) decreed the preventive detention of former PRF director Silvinei Vasques after the electronic ankle bracelet broke this Friday (26).

Silvinei Vasques was arrested this Friday (26) in Paraguay while trying to escape, according to . He had been imprisoned for six months by the First Panel as a participant in one of the cores of the government’s coup plot (PL).

In the decision, Minister Alexandre de Moraes said that he informed him of a failure in the defendant’s electronic monitoring. According to the PF, in the early hours of December 25, 2025, around 3 am, the equipment stopped transmitting the GPS signal.

Later, around 1 pm, the device also lost a GPRS signal, possibly due to the battery running out.

Faced with this interruption in monitoring, on the evening of the same day, around 11pm, a team from the Regional Superintendence of the Federal Police in Santa Catarina was called to investigate possible non-compliance with restrictive measures.

At the location, the team was received by the doormen, who provided the requested information and authorized police access to carry out the necessary investigations and surveys.

Firstly, it was reported that the Santa Catarina State Penal Service was at the scene, but no one answered. They also went to the parking space and found it empty. The team of federal police repeated the procedure and reached the same results.

However, from the images obtained from the CCTV system it was possible to identify that Silvinei was using a vehicle in the name of the company Localiza, possibly rented.

It is possible to say, according to the decision, that he was there at least at 7:22 pm, on Christmas Eve (24), when he was no longer seen getting in or out of the car.

According to the sequence of images, at approximately 7:06 pm he placed bags in the trunk of the car; again, at approximately 7:14 pm, he placed more things in the back seat (including food and many bags of dog toilet mats), on the passenger side; and, at approximately 7:22 pm, he went to the car carrying feeding pots (for food) and driving a dog (appearing to be a pitbull breed), and left.

At the time, he was wearing black sweatpants, a gray Puma t-shirt and a black Puma cap.

“The on-site investigations carried out by the Federal Police at the home address of the defendant Silvinei Vasques indicate that his escape had taken place, since the defendant was not in his apartment at the time of the investigation, in violation of the precautionary measure of nighttime home confinement”, says part of the decision.

Moraes recalls the decision that granted provisional freedom to Vasques with precautionary measures, such as the prohibition of being absent from the District and home confinement at night and on weekends using an electronic ankle bracelet.

In addition to the ban on being absent from the country, as well as the cancellation of all passports issued by Brazil in the name of the person being investigated.
