IRS goes down to the lowest brackets. Average salary rises 4.6%. Most pensions increase by 2.8%. PRR still has a lot to do.

New year, new bills. 2026 brings several changes that affect the pockets of the Portuguese. He summarized the main news.

Nos taxes, the IRS is lower for the lower brackets; minus 0.3 percentage points for everyone in the 2nd to 5th brackets. The decrease will be noticed in the IRS of all taxpayers (including the highest brackets), due to the IRS’s progressive structure and calculations.

One question remains: the automatic formula increased the IRS levels by 3.51%. It is a higher percentage than the increase in (2.1%) but is below the increase in the average salary (4.6%).

Translation: these changes, together, could harm workers whose salaries are increased.

Precisely in relation to salaries, the national minimum wage will rise to 920 euros; it is an increase of 50 euros compared to the current value.

The average salary is expected to rise by 4.6% in the new year, translating into a new average of 1,731 euros per month.

The salaries of Public Service they rise by 2.15%, or an increase of 56.58 euros per month – whatever is best for the worker, case by case.

The lowest salary in the Public Service rises by 6.4%, reaching 934.99 euros in the new year.

Nas reforms, the vast majority (up to 1,074 euros per month) will rise by 2.8%. In other words, this increase will occur for 90% of pensioners.

From this limit of 1,074 euros, pensions rise a little less: 2.27% for pensions up to 3,222.78 euros and a 2.02% increase for pensions up to 6,445.56 euros.

Already the famous PRR – Recovery and Resilience Plan will have a decisive year: by August 31st, all investments must be ready.

The new European loan, which was 311 million “skinny”, thus makes the objective easier to execute.

But execution needs to be accelerated to guarantee the remaining 11.3 billion euros.
