Victim of feminicide died after 25 days in hospital; family and friends demanded strictness in legislation and an end to violence against women during farewell
The body of Tainara Souza Santos, aged 31, was buried this Friday afternoon (26) at São Pedro Cemetery, in the East Zone of . The farewell ceremony, which ended around 12:30 pm to applause, was marked by strong commotion and indignation from family and friends.
Tainara passed away last Wednesday (24), after fighting for her life for 25 days. She had been hospitalized at Hospital das Clínicas, in the capital of São Paulo, since November 29, when she was the victim of a brutal run over on Marginal Tietê. She was dragged by a man in a scene that shocked the country. During the period of hospitalization, the victim underwent around five highly complex surgeries, but did not survive the injuries.
The wake turned into an act for justice. Those present wore t-shirts and carried banners and posters that made reference to Tainara and demanded punishment for cases of femicide. A wreath sent to the site carried the message: “May no woman be silenced. May her story be an eternal cry for Justice.”
Excited, friends of the victim asked for changes in laws protecting women. “Today it was Tainara and tomorrow, who will it be?”, asked one of the group members. Ingrid Rodrigues, a friend of the victim, made an appeal for awareness: “Those of you who have sons, educate your sons”.
Tainara leaves two children: a 12-year-old boy and a 7-year-old girl.

Investigation
Douglas Alves da Silva, 26 years old, was arrested on November 30, one day after the incident, and remains detained in the penitentiary. With the confirmation of the death, the case, which was already serious, began to be officially investigated by the authorities as a completed femicide.
