An unprecedented medical miracle took place in Germany. Parents Markus (35) and Synthia (29) gave birth to healthy identical triplets from one egg, naturally. , experts estimate that the probability of having such a birth is extremely low.
- In a hospital in Dresden, healthy identical triplets were born from one egg.
- The chance of such a birth is approximately 200 million to one.
- The triplets were conceived naturally without assisted insemination.
- A 20-member medical team attended the birth.
Triplets Hardy, Levi and Bernie were born at the Carl Gustav Carus University Hospital in Dresden at the beginning of November. The fact that children develop from a single fertilized egg is considered extraordinary by doctors. “Triplets are usually born from two or three separate eggs, but in this case one egg split twice” said the health workers.
Even more rarely, they were conceived without artificial insemination. “The so-called monochorionic-triamniotic pregnancy with triplets is a rarity, with an estimated incidence of approximately 1 in 600,000 births. But here everything happened spontaneously, without any assisted reproductive technology,” added the doctors, assuming that the chance of having identical triplets under such circumstances is approximately 200 million to one.
A 20-member medical team was in charge of the birth itself. Although the boys were born at 31 weeks of pregnancy, they had no health problems. “Nevertheless, they required special care. Before they go home, they should be able to grow, breathe on their own, eat and regulate their body temperature,” emphasized Professor Mario Rüdiger, Head of Neonatology at the Dresden Hospital.
