The fairy tale Three Nuts for Cinderella has turned into a holiday phenomenon that attracts generations of viewers to the screens every year. In our country, it is a symbol of comfort, childhood and the smell of Christmas, and it has also fallen under its spell abroad. In the past years, the German castle Moritzburg hosted an exhibition about this fairy tale, which was expanded to include an exhibition about the main protagonist Libuška Šafránková, but without permission. The family is now suing the castle, writes the newspaper.
In the past, Moritzburg sold souvenir items with Šafránková’s face. Her son Josef Abrhám Jr. is demanding financial compensation from the chateau. “Everything took place without any consultation with Mr. Abrhám Jr., who is the bearer of personality rights after his dead mother,” reminds the family lawyer Aleš Rozehnal.
This year, they opened an exhibition at the castle only about the filming of the fairy tale Three Nuts for Cinderella, which was filmed there in the first half of the 1970s. The exhibition about Šafránková’s life, which was supposed to include her private photos, no longer complements the exhibition.
Despite the fact that Abrhám Jr. and his lawyer should have had evidence in the past that they also exhibited private photos of Šafránková at the castle, Moritzburg is defending itself. “We are not exhibiting any private photos, because we know that she herself was shy. It is true that we would like to show Mrs. Šafránková’s son the exhibition and tell him what our goal is.” responded the management of the castle.
Since childhood, Libuše Šafránková attended drama clubs and studied at the Brno Conservatory. Already during her studies, she performed in Mahen’s drama of the Brno State Theater and in 1971 she played Barunka in the four-part film Grandma. The film Kolja (1996) was a success with the audience, for which she won the Czech Lion.
Fairy tales are also well-known and popular Prince and Večernice (1978), Salt over Gold (1982) and the films Můj bracha má prima brachu (1975), Jára Cimrman lying, sleeping (1983), Village has a center (1985) or Obecná škola (1990). In addition to films, Libuše Šafránková also starred in television series, for example Cirkus Humberto (1988), Náhrdelník (1992), Chetnik humoresque (1997), Hospital on the outskirts of the city – new destinies (2008).
